Trackpad locks on scroll; reloading mouse driver crashes X

As of a few days ago, I've had the occasional bug where the trackpad on my laptop (Samsung NC110) locks in scroll mode. I've enabled the two-finger scroll in the configs, and disabled the coasting feature as that was messing up zooming in Inkscape.

The trackpad is an Elantech one, so I need a custom mouse driver to configure it ala Synaptics.

Though I don't know if it's advisable to do so, I've found I can fix this by reloading the psmouse module; however, this has (recently had) a tendency to crash X. And when X crashes, I get all sorts of problems with dbus losing its session, so I usually have to restart anyway.

Has anyone else encountered this, and does anyone know of a better way to fix it?
