Intel Wireless very slow?

When I boot up the computer, the wireless connection is normal. But after several hours (or maybe at random) it starts slowing down to the extent of not being usable. Pings to my router/gateway are slower and slower and they end up not arriving.

The way I have found to temporarily fix this is:

# modprobe -r iwlwifi
# modprobe iwlwifi

The card is: 10:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN [Shiloh] Network Connection
