I'm affected by the current issues of playing flash videos (smurfish blue look, videos leaking through windows) and I'm patiently watching the adobe bugtracker and the threads here on this topic.
Tweaking around with different versions of the flashplugin (current, 11.1, 10.3 "square") I realized that I'm having another problem: I can't get hardware decoding to work anymore:
If I make my /etc/adobe/mms.cfg look like this there are no issues but high cpu load (that is: no hw decoding) when playing hd videos:
#Hardware video decoding
OverrideGPUValidation=0
EnableLinuxHWVideoDecode=1And when I override gpu validation the plugin crashes before displaying anything.
Does anyone know whether there's a list of supported video cards for this to work?
I thought one just needs a libvdpau-supported card, which I think I have: Nvidia GeForce GTX 580.

I don't know what you problem is unfortunately,
but i can atleast add a working system, with a similar card,
to your list.
This is my /etc/adobe/mms.cfg:
EnableLinuxHWVideoDecode=1
#OverrideGPUValidation=1And i have a Geforce GTX 570,
using: aur/flashplugin-square 10.3.162.29-1.

Thanks for your reply!
This is weird: I tried with flashplugin-square and the same values in mms.cfg, but still no hw acceleration: cpu load around 30% when watching 1080p on youtube, no effect if I set OverrideGPUValidation=1.
Do you use the latest nvidia driver? Mine is 295.40-1 (nvidia-ck-corex to be honest, but I think that doesn't matter).
I see you got the same cpu, how is your load while watching hd?

I just did a quick test with: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSGBVzeBUbk
Running that in 1080p, give the plugin-container (containing flash i think) around 54-64 cpu usage,
with my mms.cfg the way it is.
The main cpu% counters hovers around 12-23 %, but i do not know how it counts.
Used top for checking.
I seldomly check cpu-usage unless i feel something is sluggish, and this is not so atleast.
I have the vanilla/core arch-nvidia drivers, and the vanilla kernel aswell, no ck here:
. extra/nvidia 295.40-2 [installed]
. extra/libvdpau 0.4.1-2 [installed]
Running openbox.

Well, looking at the numbers I suspect you don't have hardware acceleration either ![]()
With my old GTX 280 the cpu usage when playing 1080p on youtube was around 4%
Same package versions, using awesome as desktop environment here. I think I'll wait for the next flashplugin release and check again.
Thanks for your efforts! ![]()

That might be, but really, it does not slow the system down in any way, what i can feel.
I guess it is quite hard to see a real, visual, difference on this sort of CPU anyways, in comparison to GPU-hardware, if so ![]()
Good luck in looking into things if you cannot leave it at that anyways
- i know how it is when one wants to go to the bottom of things ![]()
Oh, and from what i hear, linux-flash support has/will stop, with chrome being the exception (which i don't use)
But we will see. i hope flash won't be needed at all and die out in the future ![]()

Got hardware decoding now with latest flashplugin, but crashes on some sites and still blue-tinted people on youtube.
Lets hope HTML5-video will replace flash as soon as possible ![]()

If you have blue people, then you do *not* have hardware decoding. It's easy to check on youtube, just right-click the video and select "View video info", you'll see for each of decoding and presentation whether they're done in software or hardware.

Sry my bad: I disabled hardware decoding because of the crashes and now prefer to live with smurf-tv rather than not being able to watch anything on some sites ![]()

You don't need to live with smurfs: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 5#p1098365

If you've "disabled" hardware decoding and still seeing blue people then you havn't actually disabled hardware decoding at all, to disable properly you need to disable it from within flash itself [right click on the video, goto settings, and uncheckmark "Enable Hardware Acceleration"]. ![]()
