As a newcomer to Arch (tho' not to Linux), I have got the basic CLI level successfully installed, after a hiccup that it seems many have experienced when the system suggests upgrading pacman before a general update.
Now I am trying to install xorg. xorg-server and xorg-xinit are installed OK, but I keep getting the message "xorg-xinput" does not exist from each of the mirrors when I try yo install xorg-server-utils. I can find no previous messages about this. Can anyone please help?

xorg-xinput should be available in the extra repo. What message do you get exactly when trying to install it?

There is xorg-xinput package available in the official repository: http://www.archlinux.org/packages/?sort … =&limit=50

Ensure your mirror metadata is current (-Syy).
You should always do a full upgrade with (-Syu) before trying to install any packages.

when you type command : pacman -Syu it's ask you to upgrade pacman packet first. after that you hit enter (or yes or y) to install pacman, finish this step you not yet upgrade system. only pacman was upgrade to 4.0.3. so you need to run it again (pacman -Syu).

SOLVED. Yes. -Syu solved this. My apologies. I should have thought of this, but having done it only the day before, I assumed it was up-to-date. Silly me!
No wonder no-one else had had the problem!
