Hibernate results in shutdown

I know this is a common problem, but I've done lots of searching and experimentation, and still no dice…

I'm using Arch on a Lenovo with Intel video drivers, running XFCE4. Whenever I hibernate (either through "sudo pm-hibernate", or the XFCE4 logout menu), I get a black screen with a flashing white underscore in the top left corner, and then after a few seconds the computer appears to shutdown. When I hit the power button again, it boots normally -- ie, no resume at all.

I've got acpi installed, and laptop-mode-tools. Here is all the relevant config I can think of:

$ sudo blkid | grep swap
/dev/sda2: UUID="215f7ff6-40ce-4935-b8b6-a79b4a5ddcd7" TYPE="swap"

$ swapon -s
Filename				Type		Size	Used	Priority
/dev/sda2                               partition	1033236	141392	-1

$ grep resume /boot/grub/menu.lst
kernel /vmlinuz-linux root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/5078dddb-a9ce-4ced-9e1c-bd4d70cc0ae4 ro pcie_aspm=force init=/sbin/e4rat-preload resume=/dev/disk/by-uuid/215f7ff6-40ce-4935-b8b6-a79b4a5ddcd7 acpi_sleep=nonvs

$ grep DAEMONS /etc/rc.conf
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng crond dbus @sshd @laptop-mode @acpid networkmanager @alsa @hwclock cupsd @mysqld)

$ grep MODULES /etc/rc.conf
MODULES=(tun fuse loop)

Can anyone tell me what might be going wrong here? Why can't I hibernate? Or (perhaps more likely) why can't I resume from hibernation?

Thanks!
Eric

Re: Hibernate results in shutdown

Did you try adding the resume hook to the initrd image?

Don't forget to rebuild the image after adding the hook

Gah, no kidding, that was it. Could have sworn I'd read that page up and down…

Thank you!

Re: Hibernate results in shutdown

I had this very same issue. Suspend worked fine for me, but my laptop doesn't have a battery so that one wasn't so useful wink Hibernate acted like I did a hard shutdown.

I simply assumed that part of the wiki didn't apply to me because I had never heard of Mkinitcpio. But I just tried that and resumed, so obviously that was my problem (thanks, skunktrader and girzel).

I changed the first line of that section in the wiki so hopefully it should grab one's attention a little better if they're skimming for a solution.
