Frequent failure to retrieve files from pacman.

When try to install any package from pacman, I get "error: failed retrieving file $PACKAGE $REPO Operation too slow." Or also "Could not resolve host" at the end instead.

I still get the files. Some times from my first mirror, which still fails a lot, and some times. This does make things slow however.

I am using all the mirrors from Canada. Also, the weirdest part is my laptop with Arch can install the packages, from the same repos at relatively the same time, yet it doesn't work on my desktop.

Anyone know any potential causes for this?

Thanks,
Vorsaykal

Re: Frequent failure to retrieve files from pacman.

You'll need to re-order/examine your mirrorsites in mirrorlist.
Do you have an /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist.pacnew file? Good place to start.

Or just visit http://www.archlinux.org/mirrorlist to generate your new mirrorlist.
Tick the "Use mirror status" checkbox.
Pacman will download fast and issue-free with your new optimized list.

Also, http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mir … ror_status will help clarify.

Re: Frequent failure to retrieve files from pacman.

Bit of a hunch/guess; but also consider disabling ipv6 if you have it enabled and aren't using it.

Inappropriate MTU size?

Differing DNS server settings?

Have you examined your log files yet? You don't state in OP.
