Intel Cedar View

Are there any recent experiences to share with the graphics of the new Atom CPUs from Intel?
I'm shuffling around with the graphics of an Intel DN2800MT board.

lspci | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Atom Processor D2xxx/N2xxx Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)

lsmod | grep video
video                  11243  1 gma500_gf

After booting you get a black screen and thus can not see any boot messages.
Add
video=LVDS-1:d
to your kernel line in the boot loader and it fixes the issue

The Intel driver won't load and the only way to have X starting is the VESA driver with all associated poor performance. Beside this I can't get the native 1920x1200 from my monitor due to VESA limitations - 1600x1200 is the maximum with the wrong aspect ratio.
Once X has started it is not possible to jump to a tty by ctrl+alt+F1... - just black screens.

Unfortunately I can't see anything cooking in the AUR section.

Re: Intel Cedar View

This link is not about Cedar View, it is about the old Poulsbo. I am not sure of how much help it will be.
That aside, it is working for me on a Atom N2600 netbook with the fbdev driver. But I am not sure if changing resolutions would be possible, haven't tried it so far.

Re: Intel Cedar View

Cedar View is GMA600, while Poulsbo is GMA500, they're both the same PowerVR design with little differences.

Edit: The above is actually wrong. Cedar View is GMA3600/3650. And the EMGD driver will not work with it. Intel has released a driver for it - cdv - but good luck getting it running. See this thread: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=144445

Re: Intel Cedar View

Thanks guys!
I've found the Poulsbo threads, but it seems all the stuff in AUR is hopelessly out of date. I managed to install xf86-video-emgd, but X won't start.
I will try the fbdev driver.

Anyway, it seems Intel didn't contribute any solution to the Linux community as they used to do.

That's because it isn't their GPU. It's, as I said, a PowerVR design. Owned by Imagination Technologies, and they're totally *not* open-source friendly. That's why I'm waiting for Valley View. Instead of this PowerVR stuff, it'll have Ivy Bridge graphics. Which means full open-source support as we're used to with Intel graphics.

Re: Intel Cedar View

fbdev works, but with the same restrictions. Interestingly glxgears work.

The DN2800MT is exceptionally buggy! I never had a board with so frequent BIOS hang-up (yes, of course I updated the bios to the latest) and due to the buggy BIOS it boots just randomly. A beta version in best case!

Thanks Gusar!
This information might make a difference. Actually I decided for the embedded Intel relying on their so far good Linux support. since this is for an industrial project, I might have to change for meeting the (simple) performance requirements.

What I found in AUR is this:

aur/iegd 10.3.1-1 (0)
Intel Embedded Graphics Drivers for US15W

yaourt -Ss emgd
aur/dkms-emgd 1.10.0.2209-5 (5)
Intel EMGD driver in DKMS format.
aur/dkms-emgdbl 0.1beta7-5 (0)
Intel EMGD backlight driver in DKMS format.
aur/emgd-sys-tools 0.1~2~11-4 (0)
    Systemtools for Intel EMGD
aur/emgd-xorg-conf 0.1~3~30-4 (0)
    Configuration generator for Intel EMGD
aur/emgdgui 1.8.0-4 (0)
    Intel EMGD drivers GUI
aur/emgdinfo 1.8.0-4 (0)
    EMGD-info tool
aur/emgdui 1.8.0-3 (0)
Driver configuration tool for the EMGD driver
aur/xf86-video-emgd 1.10.0.2209-1 (3)
Drivers for Poulsbo (psb) 3D acceleration

What do I need to install? You mentioned the drivers won't work with actual kernel versions. Does it make any sense then?

Re: Intel Cedar View

Edit: The info that was previously in this post is wrong. The EMGD driver does not work with Cedar View, you need the cdv driver. See this thread: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=144445
