I've just installed arch linux with awesome wm and performance is terribly slow
here is the snapshot of htop
$ uname -r
3.3.7-1-ARCH
$ awesome -v
awesome v3.4.11 (Pickapart)
$ Xorg -version
X.Org X Server 1.11.4
$ pacman -Ss cairo
extra/cairo 1.12.2-1 [installed]
also I am using catalyst for my Radeon HD 6370m ( https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AT … repository )
anyone knows what the problem can be?
UPDATE this happens sometimes

Have you tried to run the oss ati video driver (xf86-video-ati)? Could be, that there's something wrong with catalyst, this driver is just crap..

xf86-video-ati is the same crap
The fact is that I'm using arch linux about 6 month and this problem appeared 2 weeks ago. So I think that some package is buggy

I started experiencing poor performance at about the same time and I have a NVIDIA graphics card.
I'm using awesome-git and Xorg 1.12.1.092
X server freezes for about 2-7 seconds when I switch between tags. Does anyone else have a similar problem?

nvidia : nouveau or nvidia driver + awesome stable + xorg stable repo = no problem with performance or speed

Same thing here on both my computers :
1/ nvidia driver plus xorg and awesome from the main repos
2/ xf86-video-ati driver and xorg and awesome from the main repos
Awesome was insanely slow (takes more than 3s for le smallest operation).
I removed my mocp widget from my rc.lua and it fixed the problem.
Hope, this helps
