A few months ago updates to nvidia and xorg broke my laptop, but I didn't have time to really fix it, so I just downgraded following packages to specific versions and ignored them in pacman.conf.
package name: (version I downgraded to => newest version available)
linux (3.2.7-1 => 3.3.7-1)
linux-headers (3.2.7-1 => 3.3.7-1)
nvidia (290.10-3 => 295.53-1)
nvidia-utils (290.10-1 => 295.53-1)
virtualbox-modules (4.1.12-1 => 4.1.16-1)
xf86-input-evdev (2.6.0-4 => 2.7.0-2)
xf86-input-keyboard (1.6.0-3 => 1.6.1-2)
xf86-input-mouse (1.7.1-2 => 1.7.2-1)
xorg-server (1.11.4-1 => 1.12.1.902-1)Today I said to myself "Allright, it's time to do it!" and updated these packages. After a reboot the only thing I could see was a nVidia logo and a blinking background (it was black and then pink). I removed everything from /etc/X11, unplugged my second monitor and rebooted the system. Xfce showed up, but the screen was very fuzzy (look at the photos). I managed to run nvidia-settings, but shortly after xfce quitted to slim. I logged in, my dekstop showed up and it quitted to slim once again. I gave up and downgraded everything to previous versions.
Here's messages.log and a fragment of Xorg.0.log.old.
I've looked through maaaany threads and I haven't found anything useful. I really hope someone will be able to help me.

It was the nvidia driver that was segfaulting (thanks to hirnbrot from reddit). I installed nvidia-beta and everything's okay, but a few months ago the beta was causing problems too.
