[solved]goggles music player internet streams keep cutting out

hello

just wondering if anyone knows why gmm cuts out and gives read errors very frequently when playing music streams?? i stream from di.fm.... and all the streams run from 30 secs to 15 mins then just cut out, and i have to reload the stream and it plays again perfectly, but this just keeps happening over and over.... it never used to a year or so back... it would run constantly for days with no errors.... the identical streams run perfectly with vlc.... shame, cos i prefer gmm... have used it for years and its great apart from this annoying issue.

I never get more than 30 mins.... and thats if i am very lucky..... it can cut out any point from 10sec to 30 mins, but usually runs 5 - 10 mins on average, sometimes I get a pop up "ok" box saying read error, i just press ok, then play and it immediately starts up again after a second to buffer, other times the player shows the stream playing, but the sound cuts out completely, so i double click the stream in "internet radio" and again, it fires straight back up after a second to buffer. Odd as i dont get this issue with vlc.

Run `gogglesmm --xine-debug` and send me the console output if it happens.

I'm having problems with these BBC streams not even starting to play at all:

They say 'Buffering..." but never play ... I'm sure they played okay a while back.
(All three play fine in Vlc.)

That looks like a xine bug to me. Can you file a bug report with the xine people: https://bugs.xine-project.org/

hmmm just realised what the issue is... shame goggles doesnt re-buffer the stream every time it is dropped! Deadbeef and vlc both stop momentarily playing, but resume play 5 seconds later after re buffering the stream.... gmm just gives up as soon as there is any kind of break in the stream

nah, i agree.... lousy internet.... its the UK for ya though im on cable broadband which is the most reliable available here.... obvs not good enough lol surprised goggles doesn't notice it has dropped or try to reconnect.... deadbeef picks it up straight away and fixes it in a couple of seconds.

I had assumed xinelib would have taken care of that (then again, you could argue it should handle that in the frontend). I'll see if I can make a fix for it.
