A WM for those who prefer the command-line or serious minimalists

I found this by accident while surfing around today.  I know many on this forum use, for example, SSH almost exclusively for some machines they use/take care of and that there are many more here who largely prefer the command-line.   This little WM may be of interest to you: http://vwm.sourceforge.net/

From the website:

Viper Window Manager (VWM) is a lightweight, extensible window manager for the console. Originally, VWM was designed to be the reference implementation of libviper. In fact, the two projects were initially one before public release.

From conception, VWM was designed to be both lightweight and ssh friendly. Character based line-art compresses very well as do the escape sequences which handle cursor manipulation. This makes VWM quite suitable for low-bandwidth, remote connectivity over ssh.

And why would I need a WM if I use console programs anyway? There is tmux or screen for that. And if I do need X, there is a plethora of extremely lightweight tilers out there.
Maybe I don't get the magic foo of what VWM is all about. Some enlightenment?

I prefer cwm but as JackH79 mentions tmux is just fine.
