chose bootpartition at restart time

I was wondering if there is any way of selecting the bootup partition at runtime in different OS like it is done with MacOS. There you can chose to boot the next time into a MacOS 9 or a MacOSX or a MacOS Server or whatever partition with bootable systems you have.

Is this possible? Because I use Windows and Linux on my Laptop and would like to chose the OS when switching (so that I can let it shut down and restart without being there).

Thanks
wabi

Re: chose bootpartition at restart time

I've always done this by editing /boot/grub/menu.lst and changing the default OS, but of course that won't work if you boot into Windoze, and then want to reboot into another OS.

You can probably write a quick sed script for menu.lst...if i understand the question correctly

Re: chose bootpartition at restart time

exactly it is not difficult but I'd like to use it on windows and linux. Probably it is and easy catch but does somebody know some good solution because I have a reiserfs /boot and can't write to that from windows.

lilo -R nextImage

Its possible to set up KDM (etc) to use these options too. That's what I did for my sister, who I expect to be using Linux 60%, Windows 40%.
