Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

Is it possible to use ABS in conjuction with this repo, e.g. abs repo-ck/linux-ck-corex?  Or is there more to creating the processor specific kernels than just a PKGBUILD?

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

No idea how to I would go about setting up an abs server... If you want to have a processor specific build, all you have to do is to edit the .config to your liking.  I honestly don't know what more you could do beyond what I have done.

Okay, so everything you have on the repo is the same as it is in the AUR PKGBUILD, but with the specific processor optimizations enabled via the .config?  All I want is to run 3.3.8 which is why I ask.  Nothing too complicated.

@akspecs -  Why didn't you say so smile

1) See the Repo-ck wiki page for the build specifics/settings.
2) Download archived PKGBUILD and related files from the html interact of repo-ck.  I upload v3.3.8-1 there.

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

Hi Graysky,

I've followed the steps on the Repo-ck ArchWiki page for install the kernel with the ck-patchset. I've also edited the /boot/grub/menu.lst in order to activate the BFQ I/O Scheduler.
I have a question (probably a stupid one): how can I check if currently I'm using your kernel?
I've tried with the commands:

[gianluca@gianluca-laptop ~]$ uname -r
3.3.8-1-ARCH
[gianluca@gianluca-laptop ~]$ uname -v
#1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Jun 5 13:24:07 UTC 2012

I'm quite sure that it is running because with 2 movies 720p, Chromium with 4 tabs open, a heavy pdf and 2 Thunar the system is still reactive. It's only a curiosity of mine, I enjoy learning as much as I can.

Thank you for your time,

Gianluca

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

I have installed linux-ck the corex version (Intel Core i5 650) and put in the correct configuration to launch it using grub.  The system boots fine, slim appears and it is shown onscreen correctly, but then when I login my desktop is corrupted and unusable.  My mouse pointer is correct on that desktop.  I am using xf86-video-ati as my graphics driver.  System is completely up-to-date, using [core], [extra], [community], and now [repo-ck].  Anything I could try?  I edited my early hooks to remove intel_agp and radeon and regenerated the initial ramdisk and kernel but that did not fix the issue - beyond that any pointers?

repo-ck/linux-ck-corex 3.4.2-1 (ck-corex) [installed]
repo-ck/linux-ck-corex-headers 3.4.2-1 (ck-corex) [installed]
extra/xf86-video-ati 6.14.99-1.20120517 (xorg-drivers xorg) [installed]

Edit: never mind - found the issue.  It was a driver option in my xorg.conf file.  Disabled all of them and X is now working correctly with linux-ck.

Edit2: Why was slim displayed right and my desktop not?  I would assume because once my desktop launches it launches Compiz.  Moral of the story: just let X do its own configuration, it's pretty good at it now.. wink

You seem to be using the stock kernel.

Mine:

~> uname -r
3.4.1-2-ck
~> dmesg |grep BFS
[ 0.343428] BFS CPU scheduler v0.422 by Con Kolivas.
~> cat /sys/block/sda/queue/scheduler

You must edit the menu.lst to look like this:

kernel /boot/vmlinuz-linux-ck root=/dev/sda2 ro elevator="bfq"
initrd /boot/initramfs-linux-ck.img

The nvidia drivers need to be updated to match the nvidia-utils version in the arch repos.

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

Problem I have right now is the coax line that runs from the street to my cable box went bad, likely moisture infiltration.  I can't update the packages nor can I update the repo until the cable company come out and runs a new line.  Don't expect anything until later in the week sad

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

Why is the nvidia-ck module not being updated? It's 302.17 now. It has been days since I am having this dependency error.

EDIT: Sorry, I just read it. You have a problem.

If you guys are itching that badly, there is always the AUR  (nvidia-ck - not to state the obvious)...

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

If I want to build modules into the linux-ck kernel do I just change "localmodconfig" to "localyesconfig" on line 160 of the linux-ck PKGBUILD? Also, if I am using the nvidia-ck from the repo will it still work if I keep my kernel name linux-ck? Or will I have to compile it myself? Is it possible to use nvidia-ck from the  repo and linux-ck from aur?

Re: unofficial linux-ck repo with cpu optimized packages is ONLINE

I need the package linux-ck-corex-3.3.8-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz because 3.4 kernels don't support frequency scaling in my box (apparently, an upstream bug).
May someone please send me that file (through dropbox link or something)?? I couldn't find it in google.

Thanks in advance!

Look up... post #855.  You'll have to build it yourself though, no binaries.
