npapi-vlc-git and quicktime

OK, I usually use mozplugger with Firefox to handle media, but quicktime playback is absolutely awful with mozplugger (stuttery and out of sync) so I thought I'd give npapi-vlc-git a go. However, it isn't registered as a handler for .mov files so I can't choose it to play them. I can use the gecko-mediaplayer plugin which works, but I'd rather try to limit the number of plugins installed and I prefer VLC as a media player generally anyway.

Any ideas?

Also, I have to disable mozplugger to get gecko to play the files. Even commenting out all entries for .mov in mozpluggerrc doesn't stop mozplugger handling them? So any clues on that, too?

TIA smile
