I'm curious to hear if anyone else gets and graphics corrpution when entering a full screen openGL environment? Under wine and a view other games that don't rely on wine I get serious issues where the whole screen looks obscufuated beyond recognition - but ingame things seem to work fine, but alt tabbing out of the game doesn't work ( while it does with my lower and nvidia counter parts ) ... This has happened for version 12.3 and 12.4 ( as those were the only versions of catalyst that I've had a radeon card for ).
I also experience a lot of crashes in gnome, and the screen freezes where the pointer moves but everything else is unresponsive - a problem I've never experience with intel sandy bridge HD3000 grapics (which is what I used prior to the card).
I'm running on the 3.3.7-1-ck kernel along with HD 6870 graphics.

Updated the kernel to 3.4.0-1-ck and all still fine.
Updated the headers, applied the patches (from Vi0L0's catalyst-generator tar - as I am using catalyst-hook), installed the kernel and reverted the kernel headers patch.

xorg 1.12 works only in catalyst 12.6 beta?
How to check my catalyst/fglrx version?

Unfortunately I'm having issues as well on linux-3.3.7-1 with ATI Seymour [Radeon HD 6400M Series] on a HP EliteBook 8560p.
I'm using awesome, and everything worked perfectly using catalyst 12.4 and xorg110 repository.
Since the udev --> systemd-tools upgrade xorg stopped working, so I changed my repo to xorg111.
I also experience problems using mplayer-vaapi under smplayer such as random blacking out of the video, completely unusable.
Youtube is dropping frames harder than a WW2 bomber.
Then I upgraded to catalyst-test-12.6-4 and xorg 1.12 packages from extra. Same problems. I tried downgrading xorg again using xorg111 but the same problems persist.
The situation is improved a bit by using xcompmgr but I'd really like to get my system working as with the 12.4 + xorg110 combination.
Would you suggest trying out the 3.4 kernel maybe?

I should check now, since my gfx card isn't supported by catalyst > 12.4, and since there is likely to be a split to catalyst-old, do I need to add catalyst to ignored in pacman.conf now or will the splitted out package take care of not upgrading for me?

I just want to report that overscan on a phillips tv using HDMI stopped working with Catalyst 12.6. The overscan settings would work if they were set manually in Catalyst Control Center, but an restart of X and the black edge on the screen would come back. AMD Fusion E-350 (HD 6320). Using opensource drivers for xbmc now.

Vi0L0, here's a request:
now that the package/key signing meganism got dropped to the main repositories, can you add keys to your [catalyst] and [xorg] repo's?

I'm signing those packages for a couple of months now
I'm just not the dev/tu so i cannot be authenticated by Archlinux via keyring (afaik)

^ Oh, excuse me. Didn't see anything about that on the Wiki so I assumed it wasn't there yet.
Now just to figure out how to get your key to be trusted

Hmm, I still didn't, see https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 7#p1111807 Vi0L0, the link in your signature gives a 500 server error, is it a persistent problem or am I just having bad luck today?

I can't seem to get single or multi-display desktop working via amdcccle. It just closes when I click OK or apply on those settings and dmesg says something like
amdcccle[1220]: segfault at 114 ip 00007f60cd2ee4e1 sp 00007ffffbaebee0 error 6 in libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0.2400.9[7f60cd29e000+ad000]
Cloned display works fine though. So does disabling the display.
I have a feeling that it might be related to this bug: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=664574

Hi Vi0L0, can you add a catalyst-lts package ?
Offline
I have read through the past 3 pages of this topic and I am confused about the current state of the fglrx packages, Xorg versions, and kernel versions.
I have an HD6770 card, kernel 3.3.8-1 amd64, and Xorg 1.12. I am currently using the radeon open source driver, but the card is running a little hot and I hear that fglrx will let it run cooler.
If I add the Catalyst repository and install like it says in the Wiki, will I get the right driver (12.6) for Xorg 1.12, and will this work with the 3.3.8 kernel or do I need 3.4? Or, would I need to use a different repository to get 12.6? Or, just what?
Tim
PS - Is 63-64C too hot for the video card or is it normal?

The current (stable) version of Catalyst is 12.4 This version does not work with the latest Xorg, but it does work with the latest (stable) kernel. To use this version, you will have to add the [xorg111] repo and downgrade Xorg to version 1.11. You can get this version from either the [catalyst] repo, or built it yourself using AUR.
The current beta version is Catalyst 12.6 This version does work with the latest Xorg and it does work with the latest (stable) kernel. You can get this version from the AUR.
I don't know about kernel3.4 support, as I don't use this myself.

I verified that my HD6770 is running about 15C hotter on Arch with the Radeon driver than on Ubuntu with the Catalyst driver. So, I am trying to install Catalyst 12.6 from the AUR.
I thought I had finally worked around all the dependency problems and the "makepkg -i" got all the way to installing catalyst-test with pacman -U. But then it failed because:
:: catalyst-test and libgl are in conflict. Remove libgl? [y/N]
error: unresolvable package conflicts detected
error: failed to prepare transaction (conflicting dependencies)
:: catalyst-test and libgl are in conflict
As I recall, I had the same problem a couple of months ago and I ended up having to uninstall and reinstall libgl and all its dependencies. It took a long time and I really don't want to go through that, again. Is there a better way?
Tim
PS - https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 3#p1072233
It was actually xorg-server and all its dependencies I had to remove.

You can safely say Y there and remove libgl. Catalyst provides it by itself

Oh, sorry. I should have remembered that. I have been running the open source radeon driver for a while.
Thank you,
Tim
PS - It's all working, now. catalyst-test 12.6 with Xorg 1.12. sensors had been reporting the video card temp at 63-68C with radeon driver, now aticonfig is reporting it at 43-48C with Catalyst, consistent with what I saw in Ubuntu. I can only assume that the utilities are reporting the same thing, I really don't know for sure.

+1
Been like a long time I posted in here. Arch just works.
Nevertheless, I was getting impatient on why I couldn't update xorg. Meh, 1.11 is working fine, but I felt the urge to have a fully updated system again. Thanks again for putting it out so bluntly, Unia.
