Virtual terminals muddled

hello all - new install of Arch - using the nv video driver works with X but all vts available on Ctrl+alt+F1 etc show very large text and are unreadable/unusable. I have removed xf86-video-fbdev as I suspected that it was causing problems with X (had this issue previously).

It looks like the vt's are at the wrong resolution or something is there a way to pass resolution to these?

Thanks.

Re: Virtual terminals muddled

There are some ways to set resolution, but they depend a bit on your video driver.  I'm not familiar with nv, what card is that for?  Google suggests it is a nvidia driver.  Do noveau/nvidia drivers not work, or am I missing something?

I may be very mistaken, but I have found the NV suggestion on the wiki page for some netbooks/laptops that have nvidia cards.  Machine-specific wiki pages tend to get outdated and not updated quickly.  Meanwhile the nouveau drivers have been improving.  If possible, nouveau may be better ... but I don't know what your hardware is (`lspci | grep -i vga` would know).

Re: Virtual terminals muddled

Hello Trilby

lspci | grep -i vga

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation NV17 [GeForce4 MX 440] (rev a3)

using NV at the moment rather than the Nouveau driver - not sure if nouveau would offer any advantages over the NV driver for such an old card.

used nv prior to this and haven't experienced the same effects on the vt's.

Any info (or a pointer to a page on the wiki) regarding the vt res setting would be much appreciated.

Don't forget to mark it as solved (by editing the first post).
