[SOLVED]virtual terminal font messed up

Hey archers,

hope someone can help me i recently upgraded & since then my virtual terminal(ctrl+alt+F1 etc) has gone and messed up!
i use the following ps1:
┌─[\[\e[31;1m\]\u@\[\e[32;1m\]\H\[\033[1;37m\]] \n\[\033[1;37m\]└─[\[\033[0;36m\]\w\[\033[1;37m\]]> \[\e[0m\]

however when viewed via virtual terminal the characters are all gobbldey gook.

i wondered if it was a font/locale issue but alas my penguin skills are a bit slack in this department & so has led me to quite a few blind google searches which i fail to understand in terms of what i need to change lol

please help me regain my once great terminal as it is affecting screen displaying correctly aswell

EDIT:
i thought it may help if i mentioned that this issue does not affect other terminal emulators(terminator, xfce-terminal,awn-terminal)

EDIT2:

dont play around with setfont otherwise you will never be able to read what is on your terminal at all !!!!!
need assistance badly ...have no clue what i am doing

EDIT 3:
extract of /etc/rc.conf

LOCALE="en_GB.UTF-8"
DAEMON_LOCALE="no"
HARDWARECLOCK="UTC"
TIMEZONE="Africa/Johannesburg"
KEYMAP="uk"
CONSOLEFONT= <<<WHAT SHOULD I SET HERE? WILL IT HELP?
CONSOLEMAP=
USECOLOR="yes"

i have been reading on the wiki about fonts but that has just confused me even more & there are hundreds to choose from with no reference or preview!!

I know it was a recent update that has caused this but i am clueless as to how to fix it & with minimal info on this it is really frustrating

Edit 4:
FIXED

all i needed to do was change the following line in rc.conf:

DAEMON_LOCALE="no" (change the no to yes & all will be well)

Re: [SOLVED]virtual terminal font messed up

what is it that has changed which would cause this:
┌─
to be displayed as a string of foreign letters with accents because it is this that is my issue which means when i use any terminal application on a virtual terminal the formatting & everything is wrong but when i use then in a terminal emulator all is well & fine!!!

Re: [SOLVED]virtual terminal font messed up

I believe DAEMON_LOCALE in rc.conf should be "yes".

Without this your UTF locale isn't used in consoles as it falls back on the default C LOCALE which doesn't display those characters properly.

Re: [SOLVED]virtual terminal font messed up

Thanks! ^^ Had the same issue just today. Entered the console after about two weeks launching X as the first command, and was seriously scared.
