I am not sure if this is the correct place to post this or not. I apologize in advance if it is not.
I recently stood up a new installation of arch running XFCE as my desktop environment. I am running Compiz with the Emerald theme manager as well.
I have noticed that my right mouse click action sometimes brings up the contents sensitive menu that you would expect to see when right clicking on the desktop, something in thunar, or a panel applet works but only sporadically. Sometimes a right click will produce the contents sensitive menu and sometimes it does absolutely nothing. It's very frustrating.
I figured I would check here to see if anyone has had similar issues. Thanks in advance for any feedback!!

maybe a simple question, but have you tried a different mouse...

Heh. I should have mentioned that. Sorry about that. Yes, I have confirmed that it is not an issue with the mouse. I have swapped mice and I get the same behavior.

OK
So then I'd start reducing the variables (the "vectors of fail" as jasonwryan called them). Turn off everything you can, reduce Xfce to its bare minimum install (or try another WM completely, they're easy to install). Is the right click still flaky in (say) fluxbox or openbox?
Maybe someone else will come along with a brilliant answer...
