Re: wireless card not detecting wireless internet

I think Gnome will probably be using Network Manager, instead. I have read articles in the past about having to remove Network Manager in order to use wicd. I am not sure, because I use Network Manager, myself.

Re: wireless card not detecting wireless internet

1. Have you tried to scan for your wifi using another device? - For instance smartphone or another computer?

2. Like Ratcheer mentioned, you're most likely going to have to remove network manager in order to use wicd without problems.

Try to do this (In a terminal)

ifconfig wlan0 down
ifconfig wlan0 up
iwlist wlan0 scan

#(The previous thing should give you information about all the networks it can find, if it doesn't find anything try:
killall wicd
killall networkmanager
killall network-manager-gnome

And then try iwlist wlan0 scan again

If you get results using that, try to connect to it

Assuming you're not using any protection on your wifi, type this:

iwconfig essid NAMEOFYOURWIFI

Then run iwconfig again, to see if it has gotten in touch with your router.

Then finally, run dhclient wlan0 #To get an ip adress

If this works, then at least your internet, and computer is fine!

Assuming this works, try to use networkmanager to connect to the wifi, or re-install wicd, and rebooting(rebooting might just be crazy enough to work!)

Re: wireless card not detecting wireless internet

If you would, can you post the output of ip addr   ??

Re: wireless card not detecting wireless internet

Very well.  I did not get my output though sad

It would appear your interfaces are MIA.  That is what I was looking for anyway.  Can you post the output of
lspci -nn
and of
lsmod
??

Edit: Are you using initscripts or systemd ?

Re: wireless card not detecting wireless internet

First, Jason is correct.  Please use BBCode code tags (There are always hints in the link under post text boxes)
Second, I do not see the  ath5k kernel module.  What happens if you
modprobe ath5k
ip addr

Re: wireless card not detecting wireless internet

Well.
I see both your wired interfaces are there.  Your Atheros is indeed not loading.

The fun part:  I don't have an Atheros card, but I was able to sudo modprobe ath5k just now without any problems ... except of course, no device appears smile

Which kernel are you running (what is the output of uname -a )??

Maybe.  You might try removing them.

I note that I am running Kernel 3.4.1-1 from testing.

I do not recommend this, but... Read the bit about testing in this article
If you are comfortable with the idea, you might turn on the testing and community-testing (both are required), do a pacman -Syu, and reboot.

See if the up and coming kernel helps.

Re: wireless card not detecting wireless internet

ok let me tell you what happened,i removed aircrack-ng and compat-wireless-patched with yaourt -Rs and then rebooted and after that everything was back to normal and my bluetooth adapter is working fine again:), i didn't need to enable testing, probably i'll enable it in the future just to test it,i disabled (!) networkmanager again and reinstalled wicd.
thanks a lot guys smile

I have never considered the question as to whether it is secure.  It is fairly stable; to the point where I have never had to create any meaningful bug reports (The purpose of testing in the first place).  Yes you can turn it on, use it, turn it off and downgrade -- most of the time.  Every now and again, something happens that requires a chroot to straighten out.  I came from Gentoo and have built a LFS, so chroot comes naturally  smile

Anyway, glad your system is back up without having to take extraordinary measures.
