Crackling noises in Audacity and Rezound, but not in players

I have a new Asus W5A laptop with an intel hda sound card. I have compiled the 2.6.13-git6 kernel with support for this card, and it works quite well. But when I play a sound file in Audacity I get a crackling sound almost like an old vinyl record, this happens with any sound, if I record it in Audacity or import something else. If I try to play the same file in another player like xmms, the noise is gone. I tried Rezound also, and it gives the same type of noise, but less.
I think it might have to do with the fact that there's no Master control in alsamixer, the two controls that has effect on sound output is PCM and Front.

Does anyone have an idea why this happens, or how I can make it go away?

Re: Crackling noises in Audacity and Rezound, but not in players

I did a thing I should have done before asking here.  roll
I looked in the linux-2.6.13/Documents/sound/alsa/ALSA-Configuration.txt under Module snd-hda-intel, and there it says to use this option if there are clicking sounds:

modprobe snd-hda-intel position_fix=1 # (or 2)

That fixed it  smile
