Okay, I have a dead MATE, installed with Wiki in hand.
I have classic gnome problem after login:
The program 'mate-settings-daemon' received an X Window System error.
And there is more:
yaourt mate-conf
1 mate/mate-conf 1.2.1-1 (mate) [installed]
A configuration database system
2 mate/mate-conf-editor 1.2.0-1 (mate-extras) [installed]
A configuration database system editor
3 aur/mate-conf 20120308-1 [installed: 1.2.1-1] (27)
A configuration database system
4 aur/mate-conf-editor 2011.08.31-1 [installed: 1.2.0-1] (Out of Date) (5)
A configuration database system editor

I have NOT installed those 2 packages from AUR! I have removed mate-conf and mate-conf-editor, cleared pacman cache, reinstalled mate-conf - still the same - it shows "double" packages.
Anybody encountered this?

Solved with this:
http://sharpe-s-ux.blogspot.com/2010/04 … aemon.html
The solution:
start gconf-editor, then open / -> apps -> gnome_settings_daemon -> plugins -> xrandr in it and disable flag "active".
