Invisible fonts on some menus

Ok, after googling for nearly 1 hour (I tried every single combination of fonts invisible, linux fonts invisible, dropdown invisble, etc...) I'm lost.

When I click on a dropdown menu on a website, the font colour is exactly the same as the background, thus rendering the text invisible until I select it. On deselection it's invisible once again.

The same goes for PlayonLinux, when asked which steps I would like to perform on a newly created device (like "use winetricks"), etc... .
Also some websites have invisible buttons for me, ok, well, I see a white square, but with no text. It looks like the button itself is rendering, but not the text on it (or, more likely, the text is once again in the same colour as the button).

Also some fonts within menus in XFCE are barely visible (being black on a black background, etc...).

So all the steps I took so far:
Using another browser (despite the PlayOnLinux problem, but better to try the simpelst thing first), same result with Chromium.
Switching from mesa-git to fglrx, nothing changed. Switching back (oh surprise!) nothing changed.
Changing my Window Manager to Kwin from Compiz (just for the sake of giving it a try) via Compiz-Fusion.
Switching Desktop Environments (Gnome, KDE, XFCE).
Wildly switching Themes in XFCE
Switched fonts in XFCE

I'm lost and out of ideas, some more information about my machine:

Arch Linux x64
Radeon HD 6870 with fglrx (tried it again)
XFCE with Compiz

Re: Invisible fonts on some menus

Have you tried installing some fonts (ie: "pacman -Ss ttf" to look for fonts)?
Might also be that XFCE is not changing GTK themes properly.
Could also be you've got some sort of font issue which is rendering your fonts bigger than it should be, therefore, the text not showing up in buttons.

Sounds like a problem with EXA and cairo. You could try downgrading cairo or disabling EXA.

Re: Invisible fonts on some menus

Ok guys, it was ultimately fixed by switching to KDE and switching themes there, something I hadn't done before (I switched desktop environments, but not the theme in KDE, etc...).

I guess that my installation of XFCE is screwed up at some point and I don't know where exactly. For now my problem is fixed but I will have a closer look into the issue with XFCE at weekend, because I know that it must be my fault (otherwise other xfce users would have the same problem) and I want to know where I screwed up and why, that's the ultimate reason why I use Arch anyways: doing things right and finding out why something is not working. I want to understand how things are done.

Thanks for your time *cheers*!
