"XZ-compressed data is corrupt"

Since I borked my system trying to update and can no longer access it, I'm trying to use the netinstall images to boot into my system and do a repair... except that it refuses to load the kernel.
I can get to the initial menu but when it tries to boot the image I get  "XZ-compressed data is corrupt. -- System halted". Seems like I can't get past this stage.

I've tried netinstall-i686 and netinstall-dual (2011.08.19 images)... neither work. The md5sums checked out before writing the image to my USB drive. I have a very old Intel Atom processor, if that information is relevant.

Re: "XZ-compressed data is corrupt"

Last time I had this issue, my dvd drive was screwy. Sure it's fine?

There is no spoon in Arch...

Re: "XZ-compressed data is corrupt"

Is it the kernel of the arch install or the installer that is corrupt, if it is the installer, they I would do a checksum on it, and if that dosen't work then try to use the core installer or an older installer. If I understood correctly though, you are trying to bootstrap into the install you have already done from the installer. If this is saying corrupted data, then try chrooting in and reinstalling the kernel.

Re: "XZ-compressed data is corrupt"

Checksum is fine, it seems to be a kernel issue. I tried using the core and the netinstall, on both i686 and dual, same problem everytime.
I even tried other distros (all with 3.0+ kernels) but got the same error... I don't know anymore...

Oddly enough, if I hook up the hard drive to another 'puter, everything is fine @_@
