Find packages removed from repository (specifically Jabref)

I have jabref (http://jabref.sourceforge.net/) installed on my desktop. I went to install it on my laptop but couldn't find it in the official repository. I can find it in the AUR, but I am pretty sure it used to be in the official repository based on not finding it in my "build" directory. This leads me to two questions: First, was jabref in the official repository and "recently" moved? Second, how can I search to find things that have been removed so I can answer this question myself?

pacman -Qm will tell you a list of not found in the repos packages. As for knowing when a package gets dropped to the aur you should follow arch mailing lists ( aur-general for stuff related to AUR or [community], arch-dev-public for stuff related to [core] and [extra]

Or at least know to search there when this specific question comes to mind. Regularly receiving such email and scanning through it isn't for everyone.
