who says its worthwhile? People are voting, people will argue, and yet... people will accept whatever choice is made, whether its democratically selected or not. :-P

Ahhhh ... harken to the man who does not think doing something for the sake of fun is worthwhile!

Re: Choose the new buttons for Arch Forums

Another things is...this way we won't have anyone saying, why have the buttons been changed, what happened to the buttons, I don't like the new buttons, wha wha wha, etc - With the poll here (and popular) more people will look at it and consider ANY change BEFORE it happens - forewarned is forearmed

Re: Choose the new buttons for Arch Forums

I prefer the grey border as the icons are mostly grey. The blue adds more contrast.  As for the sunken/raised effect, I noticed that the shadows were different but it's so trivial that I can't decide which one is better. They are all nice so I don't mind which one are chosen.

My vote : All of the above. tongue

Re: Choose the new buttons for Arch Forums

I've reconsidered and want to change my vote from number 2 to number 3 if that's possible.  If it's not, that's okay, too, as they are all damned good.

Hmm... maybe they can be set up so they are all used by rotating through them.  wink

Re: Choose the new buttons for Arch Forums

why not have the "onclick" switch it from raised to sunken, so it looks like a real button?

Re: Choose the new buttons for Arch Forums

well, yeah, we can do that, but we can also have sunken to raised "a.hover" - well, if someone gives me a minor hand with the css...

Re: Choose the new buttons for Arch Forums

I'd actually recommend against doing the hover effect...it's unecessary and brings with it all sorts of other issues to deal with.  Preloading if you use separate images (which might prompt the use of Javascript), or finding a CSS technique that's consistent across browsers and doesn't have flicker problems (such as Pixy's CSS Rollover Technique).  It would be a lot more customization and testing, plus I think (in this case) it would make them look less professional...and it would also increase bandwidth requirements as each button basically would be twice as big.  The icon replacement is an improvement, where the hover effect is nothing more than eyecandy...too many cons, not enough pros...IMHO

voted #4.

looks even better on white background  (rightclick - View image) rather than the inbuilt grey or blue in forum text area.

Nice work smile

Re: Choose the new buttons for Arch Forums

That's a decent amount of votes...I'm impressed!  I think the winner is fairly clear at this point, but you never know, #1 may have a comeback  big_smile

Unless there is a late surge in the next 7 mins then set number 4 is the winner - thanks to everyone that voted big_smile
