Installing a new kernel and Nvidia?

Ok so i have been playing around with abs and the aur with custom kernels. I have noticed that when using abs and say just getting the pkgbuild for /core/linux and editing it with

pkgname linux-custom

comenting out :

provides
conflicts
replaces

which is what the guide says you should do if you want two kernels.

after compiling and booting i notice that nvidia drivers do not work, however if i do not do what i did above and do no editing to the pkgbuild exept uncomenting menuconfig to configure to my desire i get nvida to work becasue therfore i have one kernel .. i am guesing that is the reason? i have only done this with the /core/linux kernel. would this be true with different kernels ? does the pkgname have to be linux or could it be anytjing as long as its the only kernel? How do you get nvidia working with two kernels? i have found the guide for custom kernels in the nvidia wiki but it says its out of date? why is this?

I use the nouveau drivers as they "just work" with any kernel.

However, I have used the nvidia drivers in the past with a stock Arch kernel & a custom kernel.

To use the nvidia driver for a custom kernel you need a custom nvidia driver package.

Two ways of accomplishing this is to either rename the stock nvidia driver via the ABS PKGBUILD or use something like the "nvidia-beta-all" from AUR.

The "all" will then compile a nvidia driver for all of your kernels.

@OP - you need to build an nvidia package that matches your custom kernel package.  Suggest you simply build via ABS changing the name from 'nvidia' to 'nvidia-xxx' where xxx is the name of your custom kernel.  Example, I build linux-ck and made a matching nvidia-ck.  Get it?  See the nvidia-ck package in the AUR as an example if you want more info.
