Can't install on mac.

When I go to boot the install disc it hangs.
It hangs at "Udev events to be processed.
I've installed on my other computer however I broke it and have to install it on my mac.

Re: Can't install on mac.

Have you followed the 'Installing Arch linux in VMware?

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … _in_VMware

I personally haven't installed Arch in VMware fusion, but the other day i tried to install Ubuntu 21.04 on Mac/VMware but couldn't get it to boot. Frustrated and sick of googling i decided instead to use a VMware image, instead. Then the only manual bit i had to do was install vmware tools, disable a few devices, enable 3d acceleration, etc. it worked out pretty well.

You could do something similar with Arch, because upon googling, look what i found;

http://stacklet.com/downloads/images/li … -01/x86-64

There is a CLI version (no desktop installed), which would be a good candidate possibly.

I guess the only downside (depending on your perspective) would be that you wouldn't go through the initial install.

Maybe i'll try to install Archlinux in VMware fusion and see if i hit the same problem. - i just won't be able to test for a couple of days.

Re: Can't install on mac.

I have used a VM (virtual box) but I have around 4GB of RAM so it was slow so I'm looking to duel boot.

Not a bad choice, then. I would probably dual-boot in your situation, as well.

Myself, i wun vmware workstation 8.x (in Archlinux), my VMs are H/W accelerated and actualy quite fast. (AMD Phenom II 965 quadcore + 8gig ram).
But i tend to agree, you are going to have a much nicer experience using it 'on the metal' - than being hosted in MacOSX.

Re: Can't install on mac.

Have you had a look at this guide on the Arch Linux website:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ma … Linux_Only

It may work on iMac's as well.

Re: Can't install on mac.

You should get a newer ISO, but waiting a couple of minutes until udev times out will probably do the trick as well.

Re: Can't install on mac.

I successfully installed from archlinux-2011.08.19-netinstall-dual.iso on a MacBook (2008 model). If your Mac is pretty new, it may be worth trying a newer iso, as already suggested by others.

Re: Can't install on mac.

I'm using the current netinstall (and tried the current regular) but I'll try a USB.

Re: Can't install on mac.

It doesn't help as the problem is that when I got to boot the install cd it doesn't work.  I don't get to the installation part.

Re: Can't install on mac.

Have you tried the rEFIt software? It is mentioned alot on websites that this software is possibly the only way to load linux on an iMac - the only other conclusion is that the iMac or macbook which you might have maybe unable to use Linux Operating Systems or that something is wrong with the disc and didn't transfer the files correctly, have you tried burning the .iso image as suggested on this tutorial here:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Burni … o#Mac_OS_X

It should have decompressed the iso image properly.

Re: Can't install on mac.

Which Mac do you actually have?

How long did you wait for udev to timeout? Could be up to a few minutes.

Are you booting with nomodeset?

Have you tried the fallback kernel?

Can you boot with loglevel=7 to get more information?
