SMPlayer subtitles show a square at each newline

Whenever I watch a movie with hardcoded subtitles and SSA on, the subtitles show a hollow square on each newline. Like so:

I don't really want to turn SSA subtitles off, as the extra formatting/font selection is kind of neat. So if anyone knows what might be causing this I'd really appreciate it.

Downgrade to libass-0.9.13-1, for now:

Edit: Oh, and "harcoded" (or "burned in") means it's encoded over the video stream instead of rendered on top. You were thinking of softsubs.

I fixed this problem by replacing mplayer with mplayer2. No need to downgrade anything then.

Good idea. It has been pissing me off for some time now, especially with foreign films. This bug has been dragging on since October! Pff...

I think I'll switch to mplayer2 as well. Support in SMPlayer was added since v0.7 (released earlier this year, according to the ARM date for the smplayer-0.7.0-1 package).
