oss4

OK, let me open by saying that I'm starting to get concerned that kernel support for oss may come to an end, but honestly, here, it works MUCH better than pulse, and better than alsa. Having said that, we still have it, so:

Everytime I upgrade the kernel I have to reinstall oss. Is there anything out there similar to catalyst-hook for oss to update the kernel modules when the kernel updates?

Re: oss4

On my system ossv4 (4.2_2006-3) detects a new kernel version and puts up a boot message while it relinks its kernel modules.

I have oss in my rc.conf DAEMONS array; /etc/oss.conf is the single line "OSSLIBDIR=/usr/lib/oss". Other than that no configuration is required here.

"kernel support for oss" - I don't think there is any kernel support, so you needn't worry. smile

edit: You can look at /var/log/soundon.log for oss errors.

And instead of reinstalling oss, you could try running the /usr/sbin/soundon script, which calls /usr/sbin/ossvermagic and relinks the oss modules if a new kernel has been installed.

Re: oss4

Odd. It has never rebuilt the modules automatically here - same version, started in DAEMONS array, same oss.conf.

Having said that, I didn't realise that the soundon script relinked the modules, so that is better than where I was, thank you smile
