polipo update from -2 to -3 (and subsequently -4) makes init hang

yeah... you read right. some very clever developer thought this through quite well. i'm pissed. there can be bugs and problems and i get it, nothing ever will be perfect, but making my distro unbootable by some completely useless upgrade is rude beyond belief. if something like that happens in testing... well so be it, but on a productive system where someone just happens to do a normal daily upgrade this is unacceptable. while i understand that i probably can go fuck myself and use debian instead, someone probably should ask himself if he shouldn't change his hobby to something less destructive. this whole mess causes me at least 3h of work. someone cleverer than me maybe figures it out in 2h. whatever, you do the math on the man hours wasted by a completely useless upgrade if it just happens to affect maybe a 100 people.

Will you care to elaborate? Does the system hang while starting the polipo service? Does manually starting the service give any errors?

Maybe OP is refferring to the handling of FS #30427 ?

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
