Just installed inkscape. When attempting to run, it complained about not finding "libpoppler.so.26". A quick check showed that the latest version of poppler was installed-----so I just made a softlink to the existing libpoppler.so.25
Now inkscape works.

Your quick check failed, the latest version includes libpoppler.so.26
Perhaps your mirror is out of date ... but that would be 5 days out of date now.

You are right!!---i was not reading correctly.....
I wonder why that was not picked up when installing inkscape?
(Yes, I will do an update.....)
[root@hering-GTWay lib]# pacman -Sl|grep poppler
extra poppler 0.20.1-1 [installed: 0.20.0-1]

I suspect something else must have gone wrong to allow this to happen.
At somepoint you must have ran 'pacman -Sy' instead of 'pacman -Syu'. It is often recommended that all installations should be of the form 'pacman -Syu inkscape' to ensure your system is up to date before you try to install anything new. I don't hold to that advice, but I do have Syu-OCD. I update *at least* once a day.
But a 'pacman -Sy' without an update can cause siginificant problems, this one being only a very minor example.
