Installation halts

Hi, this is my first post. I installed Arch on my old laptop last week without problems. Now I'm trying to install on another computer but I can't pass the hard drive preparation part. The install just halts and the computer freezes it doesn't matter how I try to do it. I have tried automatic with default suggested settings, I have tried other settings; I have created the partitions myself with Gparted but the install cannot mount them. The computer just freezes and I have to unplug it. I can install otherLinux systems with no problems and even Windows XP works at a fairly decent speed on this computer but Arch doesn't want to go. What can I do?

Thanks

Re: Installation halts

Did you check the ISO's checksum? You can find it on the download page. Or you could download the ISO using the torrent file.

Try a different method. My favourite is: Boot the entire ISO from RAM

Re: Installation halts

I did check the checksum and I already installed this on another computer three times (I'm a newbie), but on this computer it doesn't go.

Re: Installation halts

Maybe you used an older version of gparted.

Use Parted Magic, set up your partitions (ext4, I hope) and try again.

Re: Installation halts

I think the partition table is corrupted. Creating a new partition table might help.

Re: Installation halts

Ok, I downloaded Parted Magic, created a new partition table, created the partitions for Boot, Root, Home and Swap and tried to install Arch. Everything goes fine until the installer tries to mount the partitions and then it freezes. what I see on the console is:

mounting /dev/sda2 on /mnt/

the cursor is blinking underneath and now it's frozen, it doesn't let me do anything.

I appreciate any help. Thanks
