ok, i will try next days arch, but how is it now with amd64?
are there any 64bit packages for arch or have i to compile everything?
can i build a 64bit kernel with the 0.7 cd?

There is an iso, it is alpha, there are some packages, but you may need to compile more. If you're a bit of a tinkerer, you might try it, but its not really mainstream yet.

Dusty, the iso is gone because of problems i had when installing the gcc4 packages from it.

Maluvia, all i can say is wow! it was your first linux install and you managed to install arch64, that is amazing.

Markuman, right now the install cd is gone. I plan on making another one in a few days. Maybe by the end of today if i can get all my homework done. But, if you have never used arch before i wouldn't recommend using arch64. you might think poorly of 32bit arch then, which is completely different from arch64. so i would say use the base 0.7 iso, it is 32bit.

Just a quick question: how workable is the 64-bit port today? I'm asking since I recently bought an Athlon64 and of course I'd like to run the 64-bit version of Arch on it. But is it more mature than the i586 port? Can I have a working system without having to compile too much myself or having to use slow mirrors for the repos?

well pacman doesn't completely work. so you'll have to download things manually and install them pacman -A. Right now there is no gnome, kde, xfce, ... There is only e16. I am holding out on gnome because 2.12 will be moved to current soon. The other stuff i just haven't gotten around to compiling. Give me like a month and it should more usable.

that stuff is old and you should stay away from it! the cd for the gcc4 packages is on the way, just need a kernel26-scsi package. If you absolutely can't wait then install from the gentoo live cd using the gcc4 packages. pacman works with the gcc4 packages and you can pacman -Syu now! also 32bit backwards compatibility works, i have used it and set it up, but i am trying to figure out how it should be packaged.

Where do I get cvsup? I can't get it to build and without it I can't get ABS. :'(

The cvsup pkg from the Danish mirror doesn't work:

hello! i have instaled today arch64 and:
- dhcpcd package isnt working - i downoladed manuly
- pacman package is old smile
- no cvsup package in repo - downoladed manuly - not tested
- no firefox in repo smile

if you wanna get pkgbuilds then you need to setup a 32bit chroot and run cvsup, this stuff is in the wiki. i know dhcpcd is broken, and there is a firefox package, but it hasn't been added to the repo yet, also if you wanna get 64bit pkgbuilds then you need subversion, there is info in the wiki

I installed SuSE64 yesterday, since Arch64 was still too alpha. SuSE was too hard for me tho, the installer had way too many options and stuff.

So today I gave Arch64 another go, and I was pleased to see the extra repo worked!

The module loaded flawlessly and I can run X with it. However, I do get these errors:

yeah i'm gonna rebuild xorg and nvidia in a couple of days. I have built most of gnome and uploaded it. after i finish with gnome i'll do the nvidia driver and xorg.

I´m going to setup my DC Opteron with arch64. But the mainboard needs a 2.6.14 kernel with the new network modul uli526x. Maybe you can update the ISO to 0.7.1 as the 32bit tree?

As soon as the onboard network will work I´m going to join to help building packages.

And are the Arch64 FAQ and install pages in the wiki still up to date?
