Hi,
I am not really sure whether this is the right place to post this question, but anyway...
I try to change the permission of my /var/log/messages.log file so that my normal user can read it. Well, everytime after I reboot the permissions are at their original settings. What/who is changing that???
Thanks
(EDIT)
Could udev have something to do with it???

If you can't view something as regular, it's more than likely a security issue. I would recommend leaving it the way it is and install and configure sudo to view the logs. Then, you can do a simple
sudo cat /var/log/messages.log
...easy

i knew that it was a permissions problem - they were reset - just did not know who did that - i now know it is syslog-ng - i created a group log - like the newest version does anyway - and added the user - it now works.
still a huge THANKS!!! :-)

Hm, that's a nicer solution than mine: editing /etc/syslog-ng.conf so the logs were readable to all. Gotta remember this post.

If you don't know why something changed after update always try cvs and bug reports first :-)
