xorg-intel video drive conflict

I tried to install xorg today and got this:

xf86-video-intel-sna and xf86-video-intel-uxa are in conflict

This seems like a new issue.

Re: xorg-intel video drive conflict

There's no conflict. You need to make a choice. Either pick uxa or sna. Not both.

Re: xorg-intel video drive conflict

Yes, there is. It doesn't give a choice of driver. If I don't say "all", I have to pick them one by one? Seriously? This not a feature, it's a bug.

It's a feature. A bit like the iconic 1960s BBC children's show, "The Flowerpot Men". "Was it Bill or was it Ben, which of those two Flowerpot men?". Only in this case, you have to choose uxa or sna. Unless you know better, uxa is a good choice.

Re: xorg-intel video drive conflict

It's a still a bug because if you pacman -S xorg it will barf on the conflict. It doesn't give you a choice. You have to go and manually select all the things you want except the driver you don't want. This a bug. More people are going to encounter this and complain.

Re: xorg-intel video drive conflict

Why would you use "pacman -S xorg"? I'm not aware of any documentation saying that, and if there's any out there, it's wrong and should be corrected.

Re: xorg-intel video drive conflict

You will never want to pacman -S xorg but use -S xf86-video-intel or direct the desired acceleration and it will pull in all required stuff.

Re: xorg-intel video drive conflict

It fails during install if you select the xorg package as well. It doesn't matter what I did or didn't do. If you try to install the xorg package will cause the installation of Archlinux to fail. If do after an install of Archlinux, if barfs errors and fails. I don't see how this isn't a bug.

Btw: ubuntu doesn't have this "bug".

Re: xorg-intel video drive conflict

xorg is a package group (as seen with pacman -Sg). We have to read the man page of pacman here. You have indeed to say what packages you would like, but you do not have to specify it one by one; just say something like: 1-22,24-86 .
