Thanks a lot for your valuable research. I'll continue using -uxa for the time being but I'll check other options when the next release comes.

Yes indeed, thank you!

This thread comes at the perfect time. I'm planning on building a relatively inexpensive Intel-based HTPC mostly for movies. The hardware should be in early next week, and it'll be a Sandy Bridge-based system. Looks like I'll be using UXA--I was perplexed when I did some early research prior to hardware selection and looked through the driver listings for Intel systems (specifically Intel graphics). This has definitely cleared things up.

To say I have a great appreciation for the Arch community would be a gross understatement.

Re: [solved] xf86-video-intel and friends

Using the -saa driver on my Acer Aspire AS4830T-6678 lead to cinnamon crashing when resizing windows.  Switching to the -uxa seems to be stable (knock on wood).

You might want to report the broken stuff upstream if it's not fixed in git already, as suggested in https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/30569

Re: [solved] xf86-video-intel and friends

I'm getting slowness/artefacts (not sure which) with -sna. Nothing terrible but I may try -uxa... I'm having some other odd problems, too, though, so it may be nothing to do with the graphics.
