Forums Updates: feedback and questions answered

Some of you will have noticed some forum downtime today and no doubt you have noticed the changes!

I would appreciate it if people would consider the current state of the forum as a release candidate, rather than a final release.  I am sure there are some things that will need tweaking or fixing and some unforseen problems/issues.

Please report any such problems on the Forum, Wiki and Documentation Discussion board.  You can also provide feedback there.

A word of caution - when you click on the RSS link in the top right it will take you to the topics_anywhere page.  While viewing this page the navigation area in the top right will show that you are no longer logged in but you are!  Please do not panic.

Thanks.

.:edit:.

If people are confused by some of the recent changes then PLEASE feel free to ask questions in this thread.  Several of the boards have been moved or removed and we need to make sure everyone still feels that there is a proper place to post everything smile

I don't have time to post anything but rubbish. Anything that requires thought takes up too many seconds.

Maybe you need to change your name to dibblethecreator...

Oh, the process of de-uglification has begun! These are great time in the Arch Linux world! Now, if the main site and AUR looked as nice as the board does I'd cry tears of joy!

Hey, what's wrong with them? Got ideas?

The suggestion box only accepts patches.

Re: Forums Updates: feedback and questions answered

I think it looks a tad too dark. The forums look bright and cheery while the AUR and main site look kind of depressing tongue. I mean, it looks good how it is right now, but I think I should be made to match the forums a litte more.

Re: Forums Updates: feedback and questions answered

Would be nice to have "Newest first" and the like saved in user's profile (at least for me).

Re: Forums Updates: feedback and questions answered

It's about messages posetd in a topic.
When browsing a topic, at the bottom of the page one can choose (html select) "Oldest first" (default) or "Newest first" then press "Go".
From "view page source"

<select name="postorder"><option value="asc" selected="selected">Oldest First</option><option value="desc">Newest First</option></select>

Sorry for beeing unclear with the first post.

You are still unclear - what are you talking about?  I understand the aim of what you are saying but I am not sure what you are suggestioning I should do?

Re: Forums Updates: feedback and questions answered

I would like to see posts in "newest first" order by default when browsing a topic.
My suggestion is to put this as a user setting in one's profile.
Like the new setting "Ignore theese forums:".

And how do you suggest I do that?  I'm not being awkward, I'd just like to know how that can be done smile

Re: Forums Updates: feedback and questions answered

I suppose that the one who added the new setting in user profile could answer this question better.
Anyway, I do not have any experience with writting php, but something like:

<select name="postorder">
    <option value="asc" <?if(user wantsOldestFirst) echo "selected=true"?>>Oldest First</option>
    <option value="desc" <?if(user wantsOldestFirst) echo "selected=true"?>>Newest First</option>
</select>

Please remember that I do not have php skills, so if I wrote something enormously stupid don't blame me, blame the .... keyboard. roll

Re: Forums Updates: feedback and questions answered

Well, it was me that made the changes but they are all based on existing phpbb modifications - i can't find a modification that does what you have suggested so if you cannot provide the code maybe someone else can?

A "mark all postings read" links would be nice.
