[SOLVED]: Arch "Netinstall" slow compared to ....

I got 2 of the same systems.
with a pacman -Syu on the other already installed system, its very fast dwonloading with no errors from "Server = http://mirror.csclub.uwaterloo.ca/archlinux/$repo/os/$arch"
At the same time, on another system during a "netinstall" using the exact same repo/mirror as above, all I get is ".... from mirror.csclub.uwaterloo.ca : Connection timed out : No address record" ?, and then its just keeps trying other mirrors....
It is actually getting them, but at a uselessly slow rate, it's af if everyone of the repo's are being "throttled-down" only during a "netinstall" of Arch.
However, in another terminal, on the same "netinstall" system, using ping, or nslookup, ..., my "eth0" is responsive, and with no errors.
I've done many, many successfully fast netinstall's recently, and have had no issues like this, until now.

Anyone else experiencing this "anomoly" ?

thanks ahead.

also, in addition to the above findings, it makes no difference if I use http, or ftp protocols regardring above mirrors.

Errors in this entry may cause poor network performance and/or certain programs to open very slowly, or not work at all. This is a very common error for beginners.

Re: [SOLVED]: Arch "Netinstall" slow compared to ....

Yes, thanks for help, it's just "dhcp", but as I mentioned, it's the same netinstall process that I've used many times, as well as recently, aka yesterday. ? -faster than

...beginners

, and with no probs whatsoever, until now.
So, my long-shot-paranoid guess at this point, would be my ISP is trying yet another different illegal "throttling" method, which is interfereing with my arch netinstalls ? And lol, of course bell canada , and rogers are famous ISP-CROOKS for that kind-o-thing around here. sad

In other words, is there any chance that Arch users can get a "new" STABLE Core/Netinstall Release image soon ???  (and NO, I'm NOT talkin' 'bout those crash/bang "Testing" .iso's either -thanks, but no thanks).

Respectfully, Arch rules, the rest follow.

Re: [SOLVED]: Arch "Netinstall" slow compared to ....

I'm slightly confused... Why would "illegal throttling" make one machine download from the mirror fine and the other machine not so? Do you have more then one internet provider being piped to your home and each machine hooked up to a different ISP?

I don't know much about internet stuff, granted, but surely your ISP doesn't have some magical block that detects when someone is running an arch net-install?
"[...] Connection timed out : No address record" Sounds much more like a network/configuration issue then an ISP conspiracy against net-installs of Arch.

I also found this thread detailing the same error with that exact mirror, the fix seems a little odd, but whatever.

Re: [SOLVED]: Arch "Netinstall" slow compared to ....

yep, and thats why I tried several other repo's/mirrors, just in case "csclub.uwaterloo.whatever" is out for the count. I've spent 12 hours on this, and I will spend more, heck, it could even be a ....whatever?.
it could be me'ish, so I'll give it a week of testing here, for hopefully others to find similarly the same, if not, then it's "old-in-the-tooth" Arch Core/Netinstall weird-signed-Keys suddenly?, and/or whatever beginning to FAIL, finally. ?
wink
It's time for a new "Arch" (semi-rolling) Stable-Release anyway. -that's a given, hopefully.

Re: [SOLVED]: Arch "Netinstall" slow compared to ....

...thanks all for the help.
The above network issues/errors when doing a "netinstall" have now resolved themselves.
Also, I have NOT modiified/changed anything at my end ?! -So, I guess it was something my ISP was doing afterall ?

-thanks again for your patience.

i had this once too, and was able to bypass it with an other usb network card. the next day it worked again with the original card.
something similar happened half a year ago, when i was using debian. not sure about the causes and correlation..
maybe its kernel version + specific network card + something else (my router bugs a little too..)
