Allan's draft news item: /lib removal

The draft news item I refer to is http://mailman.archlinux.org/pipermail/ … 23207.html

I'm wondering if you want to implicitly mention users of community/virtualbox-source in your news item.  Running wonder's script in the aforementioned package places modules in /lib/modules/extramodules-3.4-XXX.  Where XXX is the name of the custom kernel on which it was run.

For example:

$ pacman -Qo /lib/modules/extramodules-3.4-ck/*
/lib/modules/extramodules-3.4-ck/nvidia.ko.gz is owned by nvidia-ck 302.17-1
error: No package owns /lib/modules/extramodules-3.4-ck/vboxdrv.ko.gz
error: No package owns /lib/modules/extramodules-3.4-ck/vboxnetadp.ko.gz
error: No package owns /lib/modules/extramodules-3.4-ck/vboxnetflt.ko.gz
error: No package owns /lib/modules/extramodules-3.4-ck/vboxpci.ko.gz
/lib/modules/extramodules-3.4-ck/version is owned by linux-ck 3.4.4-4

CPU-optimized Linux-ck packages @ Repo-ck  • AUR packagesZsh and other configs

Re: Allan's draft news item: /lib removal

Why mention this but not mention oss? Or self-built kernels? or catalyst? or vmware? Or b43?

An actual investigation of your /lib will reveal all of this. Attempting to enumerate every possibility will only instill a false sense of security.

Not to mention your example is mistaken.

% cat /usr/bin/vboxbuild | grep lib
for kdir in /usr/lib/modules/[2-3]*; do
  export KERN_DIR=/usr/lib/modules/$kernver/build
  export MODULE_DIR=/usr/lib/modules/$kernver/extramodules
