Looking for recommendations for a personal b&w laser printer w/Arch

Hello,

After spending over a year trying to get my Canon MF4150 printer working with Arch, I'm giving up and buying a new printer. I'm looking for something like the Brother HL-2270DW--monochrome, fast, duplex printing, and wireless. However, upon Googling it looks like people have had mixed results with the HL-2270 on Arch.

So I'm looking for recommendations for similar printers that are known to install easily and painlessly. I want something where I can install a driver package from AUR or whatever, add the printer in CUPS, and go. I have already wasted enough of my life unpacking RPMs looking for PPDs and trying various URIs in CUPS. I will only be using the printer wirelessly, so I don't care about its USB support, just the wireless support.

Can anyone recommend such a printer?

Hmm, upon reading the first half of the first sentence, I was going to recommend the Brother HL-2270dw.

I have one here - and of three printers I've (attempted) to set up with arch, it's was by far the easiest, and is the only one I can currently rely on.

I don't recall all the details, but I didn't have to do anything fancy. The "regular" drivers (foomatic I think) worked "out of the box". Wireless worked wonderfully - I just put in the IP address into the cups web interface and I was printing away.

I can't say I'd be very helpful in troubleshooting if you do run into problems with this printer - but I did not have to troubleshoot this one.

I've been trying to also use a samsung and and HP printer in other locations and have faced nothing but problems. I suspect however that this may not be due to the printers themselves, but perhaps also to the wireless network in that office being set up by a (poorly) trained monkey.

Both my wife's small office and mine are built around Brother printers and multifunctionals, and we both use linux (albeit Debian) exclusively: HL-5040DN / HL-5050DN / MFC-8880DN / MFC-9xxx all work perfectly for (duplex) printing, scan to e-mail, fax to email, pc-fax (needs some work), multiple paper trays etc.

I have and use the Brother 2270DW printer in Arch. Works great (I connect the printer wirelessly to a router and connect my laptop wirelessly to the same router. Laptop <> Router <> Printer). I used the drivers downloaded from Brother. Here is how I set it up.

Well, maybe I'll take my chances with the 2270DW then -- most of the problems seemed to be from a few years back so maybe it's better-supported now.

I am late to the party, but I also like and recommend Brother laser printers. I have one that is at least 10 years old and it still works, perfectly. Many a ream has gone through it, too.
