[SOLVED] XBMC sound doesn't work for normal user, only root

When I launch XBMC as a normal user, sound seems to be disabled. There is a red crossed-out speaker icon in the upper corner. However, if I launch as root, sound works fine. My normal user is in the 'audio' group, sound works fine for normal user in other apps (VLC, etc), there are no useful console errors... I'm stumped. It's acts as if there's a permissions problem. I'm using default ALSA configs. Ideas? Thanks!

"red crossed-out speaker icon" means you muted the sound in XBMC. It works as root because root has separate XBMC settings where your sound isn't muted. Press and hold the + button ...

Wow...looks like I spent waaaaay too much time on this problem. The mute button on my IR remote wasn't working which is why I thought it couldn't be a mute problem, but it seems that is just an LIRC mapping problem. When I use the keyboard +, it un-muted. Now to fix LIRC...

Thanks kid
