Newbie python coding

Hello all;

I am looking to become involved in a package or project of some kind.

I am relatively new to coding - I took a C++ course a few years back in uni and am currently going through a [python] coding course through MIT open course-ware. I put together a bash script very rarely, and debug a bit of code occasionally (more occasionally now that I am using Arch...for better and worse).

I have been around Linux for about 10 years (with several different distros from a bare-bones stage 1 gentoo with openbox and lots of command line use to Ubuntu). I never really get too deep into the system itself, but I casually read up on things when I start a new distro or run into an issue. I've been with Arch for a few months now, and I have enjoyed it a lot.

So, basically I would love to volunteer a few/several hours a week helping with a package/project of some type. Preferably in python, since that is what I am working on at the moment. Preferably in the realm of security or networking, but really anywhere would be great.

Any suggestions or feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks!

New to programming and you want to work in security?  Sounds dangerous, at best.

My initial response is is to find an orphaned project and take control of it.  Or, find some software that you like and if it is not already in the official repos or the AUR, package it up and then maintain it.
