Hello pals. I'm thinking compile a kernel. I tried with yaourt, but just one were succesfull.
DEPMOD 3.4-pf
ERROR: could not open directory /tmp/yaourt-tmp-ilkyest/aur-linux-pf/pkg/linux-pf/lib/modules/3.4-pf: No such file or directory
FATAL: could not search modules: No such file or directory
I'm trying make a kernel to my machine. Just what I've, and apply some patches. I've seen the BFS, BFQ, ck patches, but I need know from who compiles kernel on arch, what patches you apply, or, how be truth that "this is the right patches", or.... there's same way of know what kind of changes a patch make?
There's a lot of patches, and may be I don't need all of them, or, may be, BFS BFQ don't work so good on my machine and a con kolivas works at best......
So, pals that compiles kernel. Do you patch your kernel?
What patch (patches) are you using now?
Why do you choose this patch?
And the error up don't happens to you?
My machine
AMD Phenom X4 955BE @ 3,70Ghz
8GB (dual channel) gskill sniper T9
M4A88TDV-EVO USB3
Twice hd 5670XFX 1Gb (proprietary driver)
Stock kernel 3.4.4.2
Kernel that I could compile, and works, linux-3.4.4-3-uksm-ck
linux-uksm-ck 3.4.4-3 [installed] (20)
Linux kernel and modules with the UKSM, BFS, BFQ patchset

I prefer the ck patchset which provides BFS and other patches Con includes. Find it in the AUR or in the custom repo in my sig.
Side note: you are experiencing problems compiling because of the new lib --> usr/lib push. The custom kernel's PKGBUILD must be updated.

How do I update this? I never did it

It's not for you to do, the PKGBUILD maintainer needs to do it. Nous maintains the linux-pf package and he is very good so I'm sure it will happen soon. Meanwhile, you can try linux-ck in the AUR which I maintain. It has been updated several hours ago and builds just fine.

ilkyest, I haven't had a need to compile a kernel, but I quite happily use graysky's repo (thanks, btw).
In addition to the ck patchset, you will find versions compiled/optimized for a variety of setups.
I use the linux-ck-atom kernel on my netbook.
This does not help if there are other particular patches you would want to use, or just want to learn about kernel compiling, but if you are rather just interested in trying out some of these options the easiest way possible, do check out the linux-ck repo.

okay. I'm trying linux-ck, but a question
I've seen here some suggestion of configs
http://ck.kolivas.org/patches/bfs/bfs-c … on-faq.txt
Im interested in folding, but with power saving to.
What do you say about this config:
100 Hz
Tickless
Preemption (yeah, I'll use, but I don't know if full or low-preemption)
CPU frequency scaling, ondemand default

The default ARCH config is 300 Hz, Tickless, Preemption. I can't remember but I believe that tickless trumps any value you use for the timer.

I'm installing with yaourt. There's some way of use xconfig instead of nconfig?

1) Don't install with yaourt
2) Modify the PKGBUILD to your liking

Oh my god.... on arch it's a bit different so......
how do I install? I want use the repo on the signature. ABS is installed.

@ilk- dude, how long have you been using Arch???
1) For pre-compiled packages, use the repo --> https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/repo-ck
2) If you want to compile yourself, search the wiki for 'makepkg' and 'AUR'
Offline
I've compiling kernels on ubuntu, and debian like. I'm using arch about 3 years, but never compiled kernel on this.....
Offline
But surely you have used the AUR and makepkg in those 3 years?
Offline
As I've said.... I never made kernel, so.... AUR I only used by yaourt. My tries of use AUR weren't succesfull. I tried install ksensors, and, hp p1005 printer driver......
At this time I'm reading this
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Arch_Build_System
and when I click here (AUR PACKAGES)
Graysky's AUR packages and .bashrc and other files on github.
I receive
The connection to aur.archlinux.org was interrupted while the page was loading.
The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
So.... I compiled a lot of kernels, but don't with arch. And AUR I couldn't go......
Maybe is a BIOS problem ( a really bad or ignorant person operating system)
====================
yeah.... access. I removed the "https://" in front of aur.....

Why would you think it is a bios problem??? ...use the repo ![]()

grayski..... let's see..... repo..... added..... sl show me some options of ck.
Ok... choosed is ck-kx
AMD K7 (Athlon/Athlon XP), K8 (Athlon 64, Athlon 64 X2, 23xx Quad-Core Barcelona, Sempron, Sempron 64), and K10-family (Athlon X2 7x50, Phenom X3/X4, Phenom II, Athlon II X2/X3/X4, Sempron 64 (Socket AM3 only), 61xx Eight-Core Magny-Cours) specific optimizations.

Oh my god..... as I read, less I know. Installing with pacman, and...........

I'll remove this and try by AUR

Dude, they're the same. Did you update your system with a syned'ed mirror?
Offline
I don't know.... I put the repo on pacman.d, pacman -Syy and install with -S linux-ck-kx

I've reinstaled arch, cause I made a really @#$ yesterday.
linux-ck don't works with brtfs?

It works just fine with it.... Did you compile it yourself or use the repo packages?
Offline
I don't think there is a fsck for btrfs. Did you read the wiki page on choosing a file system? You should know this if you are selecting btrfs.
CLI Paste | How To Ask Questions
Arch Linux | x86_64 | GPT | EFI boot | refind | stub loader | systemd | LVM2 on LUKS

Cfr is correct. Btrfs requires manual intervention for fs checks.
Offline
in fact, there's no fsck to brtfs.... I compiled via repo, pacman. I've choosed brtfs cause it's better with folding. About 11 minutes of tpf, agains about 25 with ext4
Graysky..... the kernel it's ok to use? and what about "elevator=bfq" I should put it on syslinux?

Not true... see https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Bt … News_Links

If you want to use that I/O scheduler. Personally, I use noop but I have an ssd based system. Some report better I/O with BFQ over the CFQ that is the default.
Offline
okay. I'll update syslinux and try to make "the children work"
=====================
yeah.... Working, with also proprietary driver ATI.
Just some messages on boot.
[ 5.044668] systemd-modules-load[231]: Failed to find module 'vhba'
I think I wont use it for nothing, I think.
http://cdemu.sourceforge.net/about/vhba/
=====================
100% of cpu use, no lags on system (stock kernel also don't do this) and about 12 minutes of TPF.
A little better on stability, but haven't felt something like "wow". Tests continuing. BFQ (comand line) active
