[SOLVED] gazelle professional "Fatal server error: no screens found"

Hi all.

I'm trying to configure arch on my new gazelle professional but I can't startx. I get the no screens found error. can anyone help me troubleshoot this?

Not until you give more information.

How did you install X, did you create an xorg.conf (generally you should't), what is your graphics card, which driver did you install, what is in your ~/.xinitrc?

Also the full error/output from xorg would help.

More info is definitely needed. Do you have a new one (gazp7) with an Ivy Bridge CPU and Intel HD 4000 graphics? Do you have the latest kernel installed? Which Intel driver did you install?

For the record, I had no problem with Arch on my gazp7.

This has been solved. I had to edit my grub menu.lst to add i915.modeset=0 to my kernel line just so I could get to a bash prompt. Apparently, I needed to change that line again to i915.modeset=1. Now it works. Though I have no idea what i915.modeset even means. *shrugs*
