looking for a new language

So, I want to try and find a new language to learn (library-wise, syntax is easy)... and I want to do something obscure, just for kicks...

I'd like to find something complied (who needs Yet Another Interpreter) - I was debating on trying out Limbo from Inferno...

Any ideas?

Re: looking for a new language

Have you tried Forth?

Unfortunately the ones I know for Linux aren't that great, GForth being perhaps the *best*.

A U.K company called mpeltd ( m-p-e-ltd ) does something called proforth VFX but it's commercial and I don't know if the linux port was ever finished ( okay - I'll own up, I started the Linux port years ago before I moved to the US ).

mercury: http://www.cs.mu.oz.au/research/mercury/index.html

I'm going to build all the crap for it and try it out... it's alot like haskell, with better syntax.  problem is thought, that it's one of those CS languages... sure you can generate ackerman's function in three lines, and generate fibonnacci sequences easilly, but for more real-world stuff, it's more convoluted.

Still, I think I want to delve into the functional world, and most functional languages have icky syntax.

Re: looking for a new language

I had to use Yorick for one of my (physics) class. It's interpreted, though. tongue
