Hi to all,
I just managed to install and run archlinux on a brand new VAIO SVS13A with Insyde H2O EFI, core i7 and intel HD4000 graphics card. The notebook also has a discrete nvidia graphics card.
I was able to install Xorg and startx shows the minimal xorg environment so it should work fine but when I try to run gdm only a black screen appears with the clock that tells you to wait....
What can be wrong? I tried to look for error logs but it doesn't seem to show errors, the last lines are:
intel(0): Modeline "1600x900"x0.0 100.22 1600 ......
....
AIGLX: Suspending AIGLX clients for vt switchI run the notebook with the hw switch on "stamina" mode so the discrete graphics card should be off. Maybe I can use the discrete card for getting things to work?
Thanks

I am starting gdm trough the inittab method and I'm using arch on x86_64 (with multilib).

Shouldn't you put GDM in your DEAMONS and it starting from there?
Also this might help you

Both methods work. I prefer the inittab method. It is easier to override when something goes awry.

Yes, both methods work and give the same result to me. I noticed yesterday that I can startx and see the minimal xterm with root but not with the normal user. But it is in the groups needed to run xorg (I think) like video and others, as suggested in: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Us … management. Is some other group missing I didn't notice?

Trying to startx from normal user only a black screen appears, even if Xorg.log doesn't have any errors, and only these warnings:
(WW) The directory /usr/share/fonts/OTF/ does not exist
(WW) 'fonts.dir' not found (or not valid) in "/usr/share/fonts/100dpi/"
(WW) 'fonts.dir' not found (or not valid) in "/usr/share/fonts/75dpi/"But I can startx from root and the warnings are the same
