Alsa - Microphone does not work on "rear mic".

Hi,

I recently bought a Plantronics 355 headset, but I am encountering an issue: if I plug it in the front jacks of my computer everything is working, headset and microphone as well, but if I plug it in the rear jacks of the computer, only the headset is working, the microphone is not recognized by any software (tested on Skype and Mumble).
I checked the settings in alsamixer/xfce4-mixer, everything seems to be ok, but I noticed that the "rear mic" channel is switching to "mute" across reboots (even with alsa in the daemons section of rc.conf).
I tried with an other headset, same issue...
I tried with OSS instead of Alsa, same issue...

Obviously my researches gave nothing...

Everything is set up like this:

- Front output jack: nothing
- Front input jack: nothing
- Rear output jack: jack divider with speaker and headset on it
- Rear input jack: microphone of the headset

These are the screens of xfce4-mixer:

I hope someone can help...

Thank you beforehand for any answer.

Cordially.

P.S: Sorry for my crappy English...

In order to save settings on alsa across reboots see here : https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Al … at_startup

Re: Alsa - Microphone does not work on "rear mic".

Thank you for this, but that does not resolve my main issue.

Re: Alsa - Microphone does not work on "rear mic".

As a workaround, you could run a command to unmute it on startup. Something like:

amixer set 'Rear mic' unmute

For the correct name, you should check/post the output of amixer. I guess you could put the command in /etc/rc.local, but I'm not sure.

Re: Alsa - Microphone does not work on "rear mic".

Thank you, but as I said it to lagagnon this is not the main issue, because even when I unmute the "rear mic" channel the microphone is still not working, it seems that Alsa does not recognize the rear input jack. I can change every settings in every places of alsamixer the microphone does not want to work...

As an example, in Skype or Mumble, I can select and try EVERY proposed input for the microphone, none are corresponding to the rear mic ! I can see the ones of the front mic, the ones from the USB camera (wich have a microphone too), nothing more than this...
