Re: error starting X

Can you post your xorg.conf? It seems that something is not configured well in xorg.conf.

I have found a similar problem topic, in Linux Questions, maybe it can be your solution: Xorg error

Good Luck!

PD: Have you installed both graphics cards? It also can be the problem...

How did you install catalyst? (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fglrx)

Details of your video card(s)?

Re: error starting X

I have the same exact issue with the fglrx module on my ASUS A53T.  No fix yet; still on FOSS driver.  Note: fglrx worked in ubuntu without issue.

This is my xorg.conf:

Section "ServerLayout"
	Identifier "aticonfig Layout"
	Screen 0 "aticonfig-Screen[0]-0" 0 0
EndSection

Section "Module"

	Option "ModelName" "Generic Autodetecting Monitor"
	Option "DPMS" "true"
EndSection

Section "Device"
	Identifier "aticonfig-Device[0]-0"
	Driver "fglrx"
	BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
EndSection

Section "Screen"

	Device "aticonfig-Device[0]-0"
	Monitor "aticonfig-Monitor[0]-0"
	DefaultDepth 24
	SubSection "Display"
		Viewport 0 0
		Depth 24
	EndSubSection
EndSection

How did you install catalyst? (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fglrx)

I have installed driver by catalyst repository.
Following wiki:

1.) Edit /etc/pacman.conf and add those lines above all other repositories (so also above [core] and [extra]):

[catalyst]
Server = http://catalyst.apocalypsus.net/repo/catalyst/$arch

2.) Update with:

# pacman -Syu

3.) Install catalyst:

# pacman -S catalyst catalyst-utils

And after do this steps, did you follow wiki "configure"? FGLRX configuration

My notebook also have 2 gpu, intel and ATI. I only have installed the Intel, because install ATI and change between them requires vga_switcheroo. Maybe this wiki article gives you the solution: Hybrid Graphics

good luck!

Now I have used command aticonfig --initial=dual-head --screen-layout=above
afther this I was also uneable to start x
I have changed 2 lines in xorg.conf as following:
BUSID "PCI:0:0:0"
to
BUSID "PCI:0:1:0"

AND
BUSID "PCI:1:0:0"
to
BUSID "PCI:0:1:1"

and now i can see x gui!
One step over!

But i have also some problems.
In bottom right corner I can see ATI logo with string: "Unsupported hardware"

In log:
(WW) 'fonts.dir' not found (or not valid) in "/usr/share/fonts/100dpi/"

Re: error starting X

I have resolved
(WW) Open ACPI failed (/var/run/acpid.socket) (No such file or directory)

by installing acpid

others warnings still there.

by executing glxinfo command I have and error:
Error: unable to open display

Re: error starting X

aticonfig --initial=dual-head --screen-layout=above

This command is for dual screens I think.

Did you test the following command?:

aticonfig --initial

Also, have you added to menu.lst (grub configuration file):  nomodeset ?

Re: error starting X

The font errors are unrelated, I think. You can get rid of them by installing the relevant packages or you can ignore them and install the packages later if you turn out to need them. I'm currently following the latter option - the warnings show up but they don't really hurt anything because most applications no longer use bitmap fonts anyway.
