Mplayer Chinese: Subtitles

Any chinese arch users out there?

I'm trying to get mplayer to display chinese subs, without much success. I've installed the arphic fonts package already, and also have downloaded Mplayers Chinese fonts into mplayer's directory. With little success. I'm having a hard time getting the GB charset to appear or be recognized, even though I know the fonts for GB are installed.

Chinese shows up fine in firefox, but I assume that's probably because it has its own language packs.

If anyone can help please that'd be great.
