[SOLVED] udev event processing hangs forever after kernel 3.4 update

I just switched from kernel 3.3.8-1 to 3.4.6-1.
The update included the switch from /lib to /usr/lib.

Now the system hangs forever at boot-time:

waiting for udev events to be processed

Also the machine's reset-button and my keyboard stop working so I have to use the power-button to turn it off/on.

Is it possible to debug this somehow?

Linux 3.4.6-1-ARCH x86_64

Booting from the latest live-cd the system also hangs forever, this time upon:

Loading User-specified Modules

so I am wondering what could be going wrong from the live cd with the 3.4 kernel?

I am using last year's Sandy Bridge 2600K CPU with an ASUS P8P67 Board.

The OC settings were responsible, so no extreme OC with 3.4 anymore :-)
